How To Learn What I am Good At - A Beginners Guide

As humans, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. We all have certain skills that make us stand out from our peers. Regardless of how average you feel in certain areas or how much you dislike them, it is always nice to know what you are good at. You might think that there is no way to learn what you are good at until you are an old retiree living on a beach in New Jersey, but this couldn’t be more wrong! With some quick exercises, you can uncover your skills!

The goal is to be able to add more Skill Sessions to Blootopia so you can begin monetizing your passions.

 

What are your values?

Have you put thought into what you value most? There is no wrong answer here, simply write down in a journal what it is you value most. This could be money, family, duty, love, physical things, status, reputation, etc.

In order to begin to understand what it is you are good at, you need to delve into your values. This is what is most important to you, therefore you must have gained some sort of skill in it, right?

 

Audit Your Time

Who, or what, are you spending your time with? Think back to those values you’ve written down. What are you doing with this values? For example, you could be spending lots of time with family. Is it because of a certain reason? Maybe a loved one became ill or it could be you had to find a new school for your children. What did you learn in that process?

Someone else is going through that right now and needs to learn how to do it.

 

Ask Questions

If you don’t know, the people around you do. The question is, have you asked them? The question to ask is, “When you see me at my best, what am I doing?” You need to be strategic about who you ask this question to. It needs to be a variety of people who see you in all aspects of your life. For example, a work friend sees a side that a close family friend may not. So who can you ask? Work colleagues, family, personal friends, neighbors, etc. Everything you learn and write it all down.

 

How to Learn What You Are Good At

Using the exercises above, you should be able to start connecting some lines. What lines up and wants connected? Circle those intersections and start to explore them. The question we all ask ourselves is what can I do with this? Simple. Share your knowledge and teach other people!
